A perfect day trip to Tara river springs water
Tara River Spring’s
A small introduction to how the story of this one-day trip begins. Our client only showed us a picture and told me they would like to see this.
And so it happened.
We came to our client with our lux vehicle and a wonderful drive through beautiful nature, we reached our client’s desired destination.
Tara is a river in Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina. It originates from the two rivers Opasanica and Veruša below the Komovi mountain. The last 40 km of the course of the Tara River is located in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and in several places it forms the border between the two countries. In Šćepan polje, together with the river Piva, it forms the river Drina. It is known as the “Tear of Europe”. Water from the river can be freely drunk in the upper reaches. The canyon of the Tara River is 1333 m deep, which makes it the deepest in Europe. Tara itself is 146.4 km long, with an average fall of 4.5 m/km, with a catchment area of 1853 km². Most of the Tara River (including its canyon) is under UNESCO protection as part of the Durmitor National Park. This river is ideal for rafting, rafting and fishing (especially in the part near Kolašin, where it is ideal for fly fishing). The most attractive part for rafting is the last 25 km of the river and Tara canyon.
One of the pioneers who advocated for the protection of the Tara River and against the construction of a hydroelectric power plant on Tara was the geographer Milorad Vasović. In September 2004, he submitted to the non-governmental organization “Most” information on the support of 562 scientists from Europe and the world, as well as the information that the World Congress of Geographers in 1984 in Edinburgh unanimously welcomed the action to save Tara. The result of the “I don’t want the river, I want Tara” campaign was the adoption of the “Declaration on the Protection of the Tara River” in the Assembly of Montenegro on December 14, 2004.
World heritage
The largest protected area in Montenegro is the Durmitor National Park, with landscapes shaped by glaciers, numerous rivers and underground streams incorporated into the Biosphere Reserve of the Tara River Basin. Durmitor is best known for the spectacular canyons of the rivers Draga, Sušice, Komarnica and especially Tara, with the deepest gorge in Europe and one of the few that is not affected by dams and roads.
Nature park
The southern border of the Tara Nature Park starts from the place where the Tara River enters Bosnia and Herzegovina and follows the river downstream along the state border for about 25 km to the border bridge in Hum. North of this line is the area of the nature park, in the border zone with Montenegro, and includes the gorge-canyon valley of the Tara River, including the plateau above its right bank and the slopes of the Ljubišnja mountain.
The area has been declared a protected area, with the following characteristics,
it is a protected area from: 2022
IUCN category of protected area: V – Protected landscape (Nature park according to RS legislation)
area: 14,453.38 ha
protection mode:
– II degree (4,366.48 ha) is applied to the area of the Tara river canyon, Vukojnički potok and Skakavac brooks, the top of Radovina with slopes and the area of Konjsko polje with the slopes of Mala Ljubišnja

Funds for the protection and development of the nature park are provided from the budget of the Republic of Srpska, the budget of local self-government units and other sources in accordance with the Law.
The “Tara” nature park stands out for its many diverse viewpoints on the edges of the Tara valley, such as Dulina Brijeg and Rudo polje, or on sharp limestone peaks among dense black pine vegetation, such as Crvenkova Ravni and Zlatni bor. The tributaries of Tara, Ljutnica and Šipčanica, as well as Skakavac in the north, also cut deep valleys and built numerous sharp limestone formations, which contribute to the landscape value and diversity of the nature park area. The landscapes of the mountain peaks are also very attractive.
