Cetinje Old Royal Capital City

Cetinje Old Royal Capital City of Kingdom of Montenegro.

Cetinje Old Royal Capital City Kingdom of Montenegro is The city of Cetinje which was the capital city of the Kingdom of Montenegro until the Kingdom of Montenegro joined the Union that fought together in the First World War.

Some information about the city of Cetinje.
A bit to write about a place that doesn’t get the same amount of attention or love as say the northern governor or tourist areas like Lake Skadar or the Bay of Kotor and Budva.
When compared to Kotor or Budva, the city of Cetinje is a sleepy town.
Relative to the towns in the north, Cetinje is a beautiful urban town, very close to popular places like Budva or Kotor and Podgorica, which can be a place to spend a few nights in Cetinje.

Satin usually does not have the excitement or bustling activity of Budva or the special charm of Couture.
Yes has created the nature reserve National Park Lovcen and nearby (the Wolf trail in Lovcen is the recommendation for those looking for a relatively easy route ).
For people who love history and nature, Cetinje is exactly the right place.
Cetinje is marked as a clear destination with the historical value of the place in the country and Montenegro.
In Cetinje and the surrounding area:
The Museum of Central Bank of Montenegro  : The small and free museum
If there are no great expectations then the experience will be far beyond.
The museum is located inside the old bank of the city, at the less tourist area in the end of the city’s pedestrian zone, far from the attractions. In fact, it’s almost easy to miss it even if you’ve passed by,
Crnogorska Banka (Bank of Montenegro) is still written on the building in Latin and Cyrillic letters
Inside the museum it’s as if time has frozen.
The entrance to the museum is the bank counter, still with the old tools and only the clerks are missing.
In the corner of the room, next to the display of the large printing press, the bank’s safe is hidden. The chest-thick open door and bars on the entrance only give you a glimpse of the stacks of bills inside. Walking around the museum is like a history lesson on Montenegro through money, every bill and coin symbolizes a period and pictures and explanations on the walls tell the story.
A few steps from the Museum there are several beautiful historical buildings on each building there is a plaque with an explanation and years what the building was in those years.
The most special of these buildings is the French Embassy building.
Cetinje, which was the historical capital of Montenegro at the time of the Kingdom of Montenegro, hosted a large number of embassies at that time.
Also a very impressive building is the building of the English embassy closer to the park,
The building of the French Embassy in Cetinje is a very different building in shape and architecture relative to other buildings built in those years, which is very endearing and very contrasting.
There is a belief or the legend says that when the French sent the architect’s plans for the embassy building, there was confusion in the bureaucracy and the plans were mistakenly sent to the embassy building in Egypt.
That is why the French Embassy building was built in Cetinje, which was supposed to be built in Egypt, and therefore the building itself is very different in architecture from the other buildings in Cetinje at that time.
It’s not really a tourist site, but if you ever walk down Cetinje’s pedestrian street, just past the main square (look for the snake in the center of the square, and the white-bearded blacksmith drumming his tools to the music looks like he’s been ripped from a Lord of the Rings photo set, he sells bells and bronze plaques and engraves on them whatever you want at no extra cost),
A little after the square towards the park, on the right there is a Pharmacy (search for Državna Apoteka Cetinje on Google).
This is not a museum! , this is a completely normal active pharmacy,
But yes, a 140-year-old pharmacy, really a forgotten relic of the past.
At the entrance mannequins of Greek statues, inside an old-fashioned counter and countless drawers and bottles that look more like potions than medicine, as if you have returned to another century. The architecture is quality Austro-Hungarian work from the 19th century.
In addition, you should see
The tomb of King Danilo I.
A little after the beautiful monastery, while walking in the pleasant park and looking to the left to the beautiful church on the mountain, a few more steps of walking among birds and trees… or in a little simpler language, when you reach the monastery, keep going.
Not uphill with the parking lot (it leads to the back of the monastery if I’m not mistaken and there you can also walk and see some interesting things like an old watchtower, a bell and a cave.

on a plain about one hundred and fifty meters after the monastery there is a left turn for another ascent. This turn leads through a winding path and a comfortable ascent to Danilo’s tomb. The views from the tomb of the city and the surrounding mountains are beautiful.
There are almost no people in the place, a few meters from the city, suddenly quiet, chirping birds, primroses, bird houses on the trees, a large variety of vegetation.
There is a possibility to sit on the very pleasant bench and an amazing view.
A small bonus, about a hundred meters after the turn to the grave there is a small amphitheater as if they built it a piece of nature, it takes very good photos.
I’m not going to write much about the museums in Cetinje because there are several and they are very beautiful and very exciting because they take you back in time, they are small, rich in history and a bit outdated which gives even more to the amazing feeling and experience of going back in time.
If there’s one thing I have to recommend, it’s the relief of the map of Montenegro in the Billiard Museum. This is a huge 1:1000 scale map of Montenegro and the surrounding area in 3D that was made during the Austro-Hungarian Empire and it was also made for strategic and military purposes in favor of building war processes.
Because Montenegro was very difficult to conquer because of the topography and the stubbornness of the Montenegrin settlers.
The accuracy of the 3D map is very, very crazy, there are small houses and towns, and rivers and canyons. If you are coming to the place on one of the last days of your trip
So you will really recognize the Bay of Kotor and Lake Skadar, the mountains of Lovcen and the Serpentina of Kotor, the Tara Canyon and much more.
I think this is the most impressive exhibit in the museum for a long time
And it’s a bit of a shame how underutilized it is.

Very very close by is the Museum of King Nikola many restored rooms, the room of diplomats, where the King Nikola entertained important guests, many pictures of important figures from history, such as Alexander I and more.

Also near the city of Cetinje there is a Lipa cave.
This is a stalactite cave about ten minutes from the city,
An amazing experience for the whole family, the entrance includes a one-hour tour, a short train ride to the cave, a fifty-minute guide in English in the cave and a return trip.
It is advisable to dress in the onion style, maybe even bring coats, the cave is like a refrigerator around 17 degrees.
The guidance is excellent, the guides have a lot of information, the cave itself is actually a series of galleries, the tour does not go deep inside and the caves continue as far as Cetinje according to the guide, there is a normal route of about 50 minutes
And for the more advanced there is also a challenging route of about 4 to 5 hours
But what you see on a regular track is impressive. It is especially interesting that, compared to most stalactite caves, the cave is very active, everything drips in the cave and there is a place with dripping that created such a puddle that you can actually see the effect on the cave, very interesting.
If you arrive by car, you should check tour times in advance, they differ during the seasons of the year. Beautiful observation point.
